Well, that only took 4 and a half more days than it was supposed to.

I suppose the first issue was when I dropped the car off on Monday the 7th, and only then did they figure that they'd have to order a left-rear quarter-panel. Um, yah, I told them that much on the phone the previous Thursday, reading right off the adjusters' estimate.

But okay. Sure. Once they get the damaged sheet metal off, of course they're going to find more damage underneath. This is expected. My insurance company had to send a representative to the shop to inspect and agree with the over-the-initial-estimate damage. This all makes sense. And if the assessment and inspection adds some time to the repairs, that makes sense. That's what pushed it past the original expected end-date, and total repairs around 40% over the original estimate.

Then came the glass problem. The left rear window was apparently damaged, and the glass itself had to be replaced. But Massachusetts doesn't allow anyone but certified Massachusetts glass replacement workers to put in glass (which is an outgrowth of Massachusetts's socialized auto insurance policies dating back to before the beginning). So the shop had to wait for the appropriate worker to put in the glass. That ate yesterday.

As part of doing that, a small plastic piece got destroyed. Its purpose is to keep the back seat from pitching forward while driving. That ate most of today.

But as [livejournal.com profile] tamidon was retrieving our hellions from school, the part got delivered, and less than a minute later it was installed.

So I have my car back. And with it, freedom of movement and all that.

But I had to reset all of my radio stations.
