A few years ago, while
tamidon was getting her first tatoo spiffed up in Rhode Island (because this was in the Dark Ages when Massachusetts still banned the practice), I took Alyssa wandering and we wound up in a coin shop. While there, I picked up a Walking Liberty half-dollar (but not from the dealer in that URL; that is for illustrative purposes only). I walked in and told the guy behind the counter, "I'd like a piece of walking silver", and he knew exactly what I meant. He reached behind and pulled out a bin of "sub-numismatic" coins (i.e., most of the detailed features were rubbed off from circulation).
I like to flip this coin, as it makes the most beautiful ringing sound. I also believe, despite the worn engraving, that this coin is the most beautiful our country has ever produced.
It went missing after
sunspiral and
roozle's "Start of Summer" party, and I was afraid that it had fallen out of my pocket somewhere on their lawn. I looked in the usual places (my own bed, behind the couch, in the passenger seat of the family vehicle), but it was nowhere to be found.
But that's because it cleverly wormed its way into the couch. As we stripped the couch cover tonite, it proved that it had only half-spelunked the upholstery.
I'm happy. The coin rings.
