Okay, make that: "I shoveled what?!"

Today, I shoveled my entire driveway. Yes, that was 6" or so of mostly light powder, but which got heavier as the day and a light freezing drizzle went on.

When I was around 2/3 done, the Plow Guy from Thursday showed up. I mentioned that I was shoveling my driveway myself today, and the very next seconds were him saying, "Fine. I won't be back", and then hopping into his truck to drive off.

I did not want to disrespect the man, I did not want to piss him off, but it seems like every time we try to communicate, we wind up in a metaphorical train wreck.

But I did indeed shovel out my entire driveway, in "only" 3 1/2 hours after the Patriots game.

My exercize regime up to this point was obviously lower-body driven, because many of the unused muscles in my upper-body are complaining now. As soon as this load of laundry finishes, I'm taking a hot shower.

Denis Leary once asked, "If parents can sue Ozzy Osborne for making their kid commit suicide, can I sue Dan Fogelberg for making me a pussy in the '70s?"

Yes, Dan Fogelberg was mellow in a mellow decade. I first heard of him (as many did) with the duet album he did with Tim Weisberg, "Twin Sons of Different Mothers". This title came from the fact that there were these two Jewish bearded hippies...

(Two decades later, they paired up again to release "No Resemblance Whatsoever", because twenty years had indeed eliminated whatever superficial resemblances they had to begin with.)

But for a while, I loved his heart-felt songs. "The Innocent Age" featured a duet with Emmylou Harris, a meeting with a long-lost lover on New Years called "Another Auld Lang Syne" (whose melody was ripped off of the 1812 Overture, believe it or not), and a tribute to his father called "The Leader of the Band".

The cynicism and love of irony in the 1980s pretty much ended his stardom. To his credit, he did not shift with the fashion, but kept putting out heart-felt music.

He died at the age of 56 today of prostate cancer.

lyrics you may find schmaltzy today, but which I still love )
