Super Bowl XLII
Feb. 3rd, 2008 09:20 pmThe NY Giants just pulled ahead, 10-7, with around eleven minutes left on the play clock.
We could lose this.
[7:54 on the play clock] Okay, defense forced a punt, we're back on our 20, and just picked up five. But I have to wonder about the hubris of many New England fans; many were calling the Cadillac on display for the Super Bowl MVP "Tom Brady's car" earlier this week. Hey, a first down!
[5:22 left] And another first down. So now we get some momentum going. And another first down! No, we can still lose this. We can be the first team to be undefeated in the regular season and lose the championship.
[4:02 left] Now a pass to Moss for another first down. This is what we wanted to see all game. I won't breathe any easier until we actually score, tho. And another first down inside the 10!
[3:12 left] Robbins of the Giants was injured on that last play. We all get a breather, but the Giants get hurt.
[2:49 left] Ooo, missed pass to Gaffney. 2nd and goal.
[2:45 left] Ooo, missed pass to Welker. 3rd and goal.
[2:42 left] Laser to Moss! Touchdown! We could still lose this, but now it's ours to lose.
[2 minute warning:] The Giants have the ball on their thirty, but they're eating clock like nobody's business. Ooo, did they just get a first down? No, it's 4th and inches.
[1:22 left] First down, Giants.
[1:14 left] Eli Manning just scrambled for five yards. Time out, Giants.
[0:59 left] Impossible. New England had Manning dead to rights, but he somehow scrambled out and flung the ball, which was impossibly caught against the receiver's helmet.
[0:50 left] There. That sacked Manning, and now the Giants burned their last time-out. And the following play was heavy pressure leading to an incomplete pass.
[0:35 left] Touchdown Giants. 17-14. We did not stop them. It was ours to lose, and we're going to lose this. Barring a miracle.
[0:25 left] Long pass by Brady to nobody. 2nd down.
[0:19 left] Brady is sacked. Time out New England.
[0:10 left] Hail Mary to Moss, but broken up by the Giants secondary. 4th and 20, but let's face it: last chance.
[0:01 left] Another Hail Mary broken up by the secondary. Officially, there's one last snap left, but we all know what happens. We lose. They win. Our "perfect" regular season means nothing. Mighty Brady has struck out.
