Okay, This Is _Bad_
Feb. 14th, 2008 01:13 pmAs part of a cutesy "heart health on Valentine's Day" thing here at work, they have some volunteers from our health insurance provider giving blood pressure screenings.
The last time mine was measured, it was 140/90 (when I gave blood at
arisia). This was down from last year's 152/98 at my last physical, and I took it as evidence that my exercize was doing me some good.
But I've been slacking about exercize, especially the aerobic step stuff. The shoveling that my driveway needs has been most of my exercize lately, and it's a lot of lifting but less aerobic.
Today, my blood pressure is 140/104.
Yeah, that diastolic number is way too high.
So I have to stop slacking about the exercize, and get this down before my next physical (which reminds me: I have to actually make that appointment).
Crap.
I don't want to have to medicate this. But I suppose dying would be worse.
[Edit, 2:10pm] I just went and had it taken again, using three different methods (a different nurse than the first time, and an automatic home-style BP machine), and got 140/90, 130/86, and 136/88. These are all still higher than the current "healthy" level of 120/80, but they're out of panic range.
But I definitely have to stop slacking on the aerobic exercize.
