Nine Things About Oracles

1.
Time becomes unstuck
Non-linearity reins
Future memory

2.
She saw her husband-to-be (no! husband) succumb to temptation.
Her fiance could not understand why she was suddenly distant, her face tear-stained.
He looked at the day's mail, RSVP envelopes scattered on the table like jack-straws.
And he thought he saw them form the outline of another woman.

3.
She looked into her cup of tea; sometimes the old ways are, if not the best, the most comforting.
The leaves showed them together for a long time, until his timely death.
And she saw herself grieve knowingly for the end of their love.
His one indiscretion just one of several bumps in the otherwise perfect road.

4.
She found the well with a forked stick.
He dug down forty feet to hit water.
They built their house in the woods there.

5.
Summer is for growth
Children, communities, crops
And information

6.
She remembered her life before she met him.
She remembered her life after he died.
She considered the latter being longer if she refused to forgive.
She already knew that she would, but now she knew why.
The ripples in the pool settled down.

7.
He tip-toed into the house that night, because he didn't want to wake anybody.
She was waiting at the dining room table, turning cards.
He was wracked with guilt; the accountant and he had become too close.
She shushed him, and reminded him that there was no need for the children to know.

8.
He never understood why she wasn't more upset, but grateful beyond words.
The children only ever saw his rekindled devotion.
The grandchildren loved their grandma and grandpa.
And the youngest of them saw things the way her grandma did.

9.
Winter always comes.
Loves and lives mourned in their time.
Forgiven early.
