It's Starting!
Apr. 14th, 2009 10:36 amPacific Gas and Electric has made a deal to buy 200 megawatts of space-based solar power from Solargen. The first deliverable won't be until 2016.
This is the proverbial drop in the bucket, but when you contrast ground-based solar power's 25% efficiency and real-estate needs against space-based solar power's 97% efficiency (and, to be fair, launch needs), this could be just the first baby step.
