Jazz Fest Find:
Jun. 28th, 2010 01:35 pmI will be writing up more about my thirtieth-consecutive Saratoga Jazz Festival, but before any of that, you need to know about the Find of the Fest, Hailey Niswanger.
"Henh-henh. You said 'Nice wang'."
"Shut up, Beavis."
She's twenty (or twenty-one; she was twenty when she cut her album last year), looks like she's fourteen, and plays like she's a time traveler from 1957. And that's a major compliment. She could stand on the stage with Coltrane or Coleman, and still do herself proud.

And her quartet (sax, piano, stand-up bass, drums) will be playing at the Boston Arts Festival in September.
