mythological creature meme. Guess before opening )

I swear I didn't skew my answers to get this result. In fact, I thought that some of my answers would wind up preventing it.

All right, I admit that I'm curious.

Feel free to use "anonymous", but please tell me about me in my Johari window.

And please don't pick some attribute just to be polite. I'd like to know what my warts are. So please also use my Nohari window. Thank you.

(I will be checking up on my results from time to time.)

Ganked from [livejournal.com profile] ailsaek:

These are the top 106 books most often marked as "unread" by LibraryThing's users (as of ["]today["]). As usual, bold what you have read, italicize what you started but couldn't finish, and strike through what you couldn't stand. The numbers after each one are the number of LT users who used the tag of that book.
I told you guys I'm a slow reader; many of you will be appalled at what I have not read. )

As I replied to [livejournal.com profile] goddessfamer's meme entry, and as this meme provides good thoughtful positive feedback, I'm posting it here.

Reply to this post, and I will list three things I love about you. Maybe more than three. Then you should repost to your own journal to spread the love.

It's been a while, so I ganked this meme from [livejournal.com profile] taura_g. Before looking under the cut, guess which Firefly/Serenity character I am.

No, no, guess first. Then click. )

I basically agree with the rankings, but not necessarily the questions or weight.

Now, I really have to get back to work.

I'm avoiding real work right now, because it's the kind of thing I can only do in chunks.
Ganked from all over.

Apparently if you've seen more than 90 you've got no life.

x the ones you've seen. (I also put an asterisk next to ones I actually want to see.)

I won't fill your friends page with this. )

"The American Film Institute has released an updated 100 best films listing. Bold those you've seen, strike out those you couldn't make it through, italicize the ten *you'd* have put in the top 10."
100 lines about 100 films )

Of course, some movies I'd put in the Top 10 aren't even on the AFI Top 100 list, like Yellow Submarine.

Insert a post with this meme in your journal if:
  1. You have read Salman Rushdie's The Satanic Verses, and
  2. It increased your appreciation of Islam.

Ganked most recently from [livejournal.com profile] plaidsheep, the tripping and stumbling down memory lane, "High School Madness!", starring Peorgie Tirebiter:
You don't want this clogging your friends page )

Questions which were not on this meme but should have been:

"Did you buy a class ring?" (My answer: no. I didn't want to remember high school. I do wear my college ring.)

"Where in your class did you graduate?" (My answer: #3 out of more than 300; #1 was a senior-year import son of two college professors, and #2 was another asocial recluse.)

Big table, internal contradictions )

Problems: the opposite of "idealist" is not "cynic"; it's "pragmatist". Most cynics are idealists who've been mugged. You have to have an ideal to have an ideal betrayed.

My stereotypes contradict each other, but that may be my inherent unlabelable personality.

I answered the "religious" questions with a heavy emphasis, but because I "never" go to church, it tagged me as an atheist. Either that, or because I can't stand our president.

I am not more "dependent than loner"; I am more provider than loner. At no time did this test ask me about my kids. In fact, this test seems to be aimed at (current) college students.

It claims that I agree with libertarians "68% of the time". Have you ever heard of anybody agreeing with us that frequently? Even each other? It's like the proverbial herd of cats...

And they can't spell "adventurous".

As I wait for a coworker to commit an interface I need to do my real work, here's a meme I got from [livejournal.com profile] ailsaek. You fill in each question with the first word that pops into your head that begins with the same letter as your first name.

Your Name: Mark
Famous Artist/Musician/Band: Morphine
3 letter word: met
Street name: Main
Color: mauve
Vehicle: Mercury [1]
TV Show: Miami Vice [2]
State/City: Maine [3]
Boy Name: Mark
Girl Name: Marcia
Alcoholic drink: meade
Occupation: manager
Flower: morning glory [1]
Celebrity: Mike Marshall [4]
Food: meat
Something found in a kitchen: mom [5]
Reason for Being Late: moping [1]
Something You Throw Away: mail
Cartoon Character: Mighty Mouse [6]
Something You Shout: Merde!

[1] My brain jammed on these, insisting on a word that didn't start with 'M'
[2] The fascinating thing about this is that I didn't have a television when this series was on the air.
[3] This was, no doubt, influenced by the "Main Street" reference; otherwise, I'm certain I'd've thought of "Massachusetts" first.
[4] Mike Marshall? I mean, okay, I probably saw him pitch for the Montreal Expos when I was a kid, but I haven't thought of him at all in years.
[5] This actually refers to [livejournal.com profile] tamidon, my kids' mom, not my own mom. She gets called "mom" so often around the house, my brain has apparently attached her image to this name.
[6] I find it fascinating that I came up with this before "Mickey Mouse".

Okay, why not? It's only a month after Valentine's Day, so it took a while for this junior-high meme to reach some grown-ups.

Hymn -- Ultravox

a capella
Give us
this day
all that you showed me -
The power
and the glory
'til my kingdom comes.

Chorus:
Give us
this day
all that you showed me -
The power and the glory
'til my kingdom comes.
Give me
all the
storybook told me
The faith
and the glory
'til my kingdom comes.

And they said that in our time,
All that's good will fall from grace.
Even saints would turn their face
In our time.
And they told us that in our days,
Different words said in different ways
Have other meanings from He who says
In our time:

Chorus

And they said that in our time,
we would reap from their legacy
We would learn from what they had seen
In our time.
And they told us that in our days,
We would know what was high on high
We would follow and not defy
In our time.

Chorus

Bridge:
Faithless in faith
we must behold the things we see.

Repeat Chorus and fade

Blog for Choice Day - January 22, 2007 I'm pro-choice on everything; reproductive freedom and medical freedom are not exceptions.

It is not possible to consider abortion to be a criminal act unless the woman receiving the procedure is opposed to it. The only other way is by invoking lame superstition.

And lame superstition makes for bad public policy.
