I'm more than a bit of a materialist (pack-rat, yes, but objects contain memories to me, so packing and moving is much like brain surgery). However, I'm not an "empire builder" in the office, so I don't have more than two crates of Stuff to move. (Some of my coworkers have up to six.)
Part of relocation in the modern world means that I'll be without net access for a few days (at least from the office). Tomorrow, our off-site training facility will be filled with a bunch of displaced geeks with our work laptops, looking somewhat like a newsreel of Ellis Island in the early 20th century.
Did I mention that I hate moving? Packing means taking things from their proper place, putting them in an inappropriate device, and then finding a new appropriate place for them. It means grabbing the base of the tree and pulling up the root-ball, scattering dirt about. And it probably means that I'll accidentally drive to the wrong office next week, at least once (and probably not on Monday).
For anyone who has one of my business cards: my office phone number will be changing. I don't expect that to be much of an issue, as none of y'all called me at work anyway. And I'm fine with that. Business cards are marketing's idea of turning engineers into part of the sales force; I don't know if this notion has ever worked for any company larger than eight people. A few of my coworkers are collecting boxes of unused business cards for some art project, and I fully expect that I'll be getting a new box of business cards that I won't use any more than I used the first box (after a concerted effort at![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-community.gif)
