Last night, because we had a visitor taking my usual driveway spot, I parked in the lower part of the driveway.

That turned out to be a mistake.

The packed ice turned out to be much more glare than I'd thought; combine that with my aging tires (the originals which came with the car, so just under two years old, but Japanese), and I was stuck. 7000 RPM, wheel-spinning stuck.

Earlier today, the ice remained quite adhered to the pavement, so shoveling it off is still not an option. I salted several sections where the tires had attempted and failed to gain traction last night, and came inside to let the salt do its work.

Nope. That didn't help.

Much against her will, I conscripted my elder to push, but that didn't gain us anything either. So I got the cat litter out of the garage, and sprinkled it liberally in front of the drive tires.

That got us around 12 to 15 inches of progress. So I did it again. This time, I was able to get the car pointed around, and drove it out the driveway into the street. Hooray. And thanks to the conscriptee.

Now, I have to call the tire place to see whether they have my size, and how late they're open today. (Not buying Japanese tires. Maybe I'm old-fashioned, but I think tires should last longer than 40,000 miles. Japanese companies make cars to last for ten years, but tires to last for two at best. I never have figured that out.)

[Edit:] Nope. They don't have my size tire in stock.
